Scheduling a little TLC for yourself during a move can pay off big time. Taking proper care of your mental and physical health during the move can significantly help to relieve stress and keep your mind and body prepared for the tasks ahead of you.

Sure, it’s easy to get carried away with the many details involved in a move. But, with adequate planning, making time for yourself during the move is possible (and important).

Check out these 11 TLC ideas that might just be the right antidote during your move:

If possible, get out of the house for a bit and try one of these outings: 

  • Grab the popcorn and see the newest flick at the movie theater.

  • Did someone say spa day? Whether it’s a massage, manicure/pedicure, facial, or some other treatment, leave this one to the professionals and treat yourself.

  • Take a hike and explore nature.

  • If family or friends invite you over, take them up on the invitation! (There is nothing like some good laughs with good friends to keep your spirits up and your perspective in check.)

  • So maybe your friends haven't invited you over… that’s okay! Invite them to dinner or lunch at the restaurant down the street. If you’ve already moved into your new home, this might be a good chance to scope out the neighborhood’s cuisine options. 

  • While shopping tends to add more items inside your moving truck, window shopping does not. In fact, browsing might just unintentionally help you plan the design elements of your new home. 

  • Join in on a group fitness class. There are plenty of formats to choose from, like HIIT, yoga, barre, kickboxing, and more.

  • Challenge the family to a game night. (Hint: For packing purposes, you might try picking a game that requires little to no pieces or equipment.)

  • Who says you have to actually go to the spa for a spa day? Cut those cucumbers, press play on the soft, breezy music, and put your feet up (maybe even on top of your boxes).

  • The same goes for a movie. Rent a movie you’ve never before, or pop your go-to flick in for a good laugh.

  • Go for a walk or jog around the neighborhood. Whether it’s an hour-long jog or just a 15 minute walk, get moving and get the endorphins flowing!)
